The active layout is the currently selected Check Layout. Check Layouts are created with the CheckMate4Quicken's Layout Editor (See Section 2.2.1 below). The first time you run CheckMate4Quicken you will create a Check Layout file for each of the different types of checks that you use.

A layout contains the fields that will be printed on your checks. The fields are configurable. A field can be set to be printable or non-printable. A field can be positioned anywhere on the check. The length of the field can be changed, as well as the font used to print the field.
If you have more than one checking account, and the checks that you use have very different layouts, each account will need its own Check Layout file.

It does this by printing an alignment pattern on your check. You then enter the five digit numbers found at the locations shown in the wizard's window. The wizard then converts these numbers into positions and generates a check layout automatically.

The Printer Setup Wizard is used to configure the printer that will be used to print your checks. It walks you through the steps to determine how to insert checks into your printer so that CheckMate4Quicken will print correctly on them. The wizard will automatically set theOrigin point. This value will be used to offset the printed check image, so that it lines up correctly on your check. See the Section 2.2.3 below for information on manually changing the origin.
Select the Setup->Printer Setup wizard option to run the Printer setup wizard.
Changing printers or even updating a printer driver may require the Origin values to be changed. Setting the Origin is automatically done by the Printer Setup Wizard. Therefore it is best to use the Printer Setup Wizard whenever you change printers. You can manually change the printer and the origin setting with the Setup->Configure Printer menu option.
To change the printer or its configuration select the Setup->Configure Printer option. You will be presented with a Print Setup dialog box. From this dialog box you can change the printer, the paper size and its orientation.
It is strongly recommended that you leave the Paper size set at 8.5 X 11. With certain printers, that do not have an envelope feeder, you may have to feed your checks in the portrait mode. Therefore you may need to change the paper orientation from Landscape to Portrait.
The origin sets the position of the upper left-hand corner of the check image on the Check. To shift the whole image, you can change the Top or Left values of the origin. To change the Origin select the Setup->Configure Printer option. Click OK in the printer setup dialog box and enter new values for the Top and/or Left origin offset. Note, the offset values are in hundredths of an inch.
The best way to adjust the origin is to print a check onto an 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper and then figure out how the image needs to be shifted.
